Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner To Release Soundtrack

Alex Turner has written a film soundtrack it's been released. The Arctic Monkeys’ frontman has lent his considerable talents to new British film ‘Submarine’, directed by Richard Ayoade. Ayoade, from the IT Crowd, also directed the Monkeys’ live DVD ‘At The Apollo’.James Ford, Arctic Monkeys’ knob twiddler, was behind the desk for the soundtrack, which is set to be released next year. The Star are also reporting that Turner is preparing a solo album with the producer, too.

Now, on the weekend of the 11th annual festival, the Arctic Monkeys are playing Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown.
The Sheffield, England quartet recorded much of their recent “Humbug” CD at the Rancho de la Luna studio in Joshua Tree with desert resident Josh Homme as producer, so the band thought it made sense to return to headline a gig with studio owner Dave Catching's Earthlings?
Lead singer-songwriter Alex Turner talked about it through a thick Sheffield accent in a recent telephone interview:
THE DESERT SUN: Did you have a chance to play Coachella or did you prefer to play at Pappy's?

TURNER: We wanted to play in Pappy's from the first time we walked through the door. I love Coachella festival. We had a great show there like two years ago, (but) it was a bit soon to do it again. Nothing against Coachella. I mean, Pappy's is only a couple hundred people. It's not going to be too damaging to that festival.
I know Josh took you there, but how did you get connected with Josh?
We met at festivals. He burst into a dressing room one day yelling, “Monkeys!” We took it from there.
So it was his entrance that caught your attention?
Yeah. I mean, we were longtime fans. Jamie (Cook) and I, when we were first learning to play guitar, we listened to (Homme's band) Queens (of the Stone Age) a lot. We played a show in Houston with them a couple years ago and I think we mentioned, “Yeah, we should do some tunes with Josh.” Then we forgot about it and went on our merry way. Then it came back up in conversation. We got in touch with the people upstairs and Josh and I spoke on the phone a lot. He said, “Why don't you come out for a couple weeks and we'll try it out.” So we all took a guitar each and drove to the desert and had a little adventure.
Was the environment much of an influence on the music you made?

No plans to make another album.

The Arctic Monkeys frontman recorded debut 'The Age Of the Understatement' with his side project band - which also features musician Miles Kane - in 2008, but although the pair hoping to enter the studio last year, Alex said it is now unlikely they will return at any point soon.

When asked if the band had plans to record by Absolute Radio, he said: "I wouldn't have thought so, no. Miles has just kind of completed his record, so that will sort of tie him up for a bit I think. Yeah, I don't think so.

NME award nominations dominated by Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys lead the charge at this year's NME Awards with six nominations, closely followed by Kasabian with five.
The two bands go head to head for best British band, best live band, best album, best video and a new award recognising generosity to fans.
Arctic Monkeys are also nominated for best track for Crying Lightning.
Despite splitting late last year, Oasis are in the running for three awards at the ceremony, to be held at Brixton Academy in London on 24 February.
Oasis won the best band prize at last year's awards, voted for by readers of the weekly music magazine.

Noel G, Arctic Monkeys & JLS For TCT Shows

Noel Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys and JLS are among acts confirmed to play Teenage Cancer Trust Shows at the Royal Albert Hall later this year.

Also set to perform shows for the charity are supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, Depeche Mode, The Who, reformed indie boys Suede and ska legends The Specials.

Also confirmed for this March is a comedy night featuring Jimmy Carr and Noel Fielding.

Gallagher will play two solo nights at the historic venue for the TCT- his first live appearances since Oasis split.

Arctic Monkeys : 'inspired by Britney'

Arctic Monkeys have revealed that they took inhalation from Britney, Kylie and Beyoncé for their upcoming tour.
The pair, who kick off the jaunt in Liverpool on November 13, admitted that they went to look a number of arena shows to look how other acts fill such a large stage.
"I'd never even been to a gig in an arena," singer Alex Turner told The Sun. "But currently, knowing we've got this coming up I've been trying to dip my toe into that.
"So I've seen Britney Spears at the O2, I saw Kylie the other week, and we went to see Beyoncé in Japan - to try and see how it pans out.
"And so those are the only gigs in arenas I've ever been to, apart from like WWF Wrestling when I was six, but that doesn't actually count."
Turner, who has been dating presenter and model Alexa Chung since July 2007, added that the group will focus more on the music than the visuals.
"There's not gonna be circus performers or bass solos," he said. "Beyoncé had an all girl band and one of them was doing these daft bass solos. No, there's not gonna be any horn sections.
"But you can't try and be all coy about it with something that big. I think to some degree you can't hold back. That's what I've learnt from those three anyway."
